Family of missing US trekkers in Kathmandu

Father and brother of US trekker Aubrey Caroline Sacco, who has gone missing since April 21, are in Kathmandu to intensify search for the missing trekker. Organizing a press met at Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) Secretariat, the Saccos also offered a reward of Rs 100,000 to anyone who can locate her or provide information that is helpful to ascertain her whereabouts.

"Although much of the Langtang area has been searched, the areas south and southwest of Gosaikunda have not been searched yet. We need support of army, police and local people to comb the area," Paul Sacco said.

The Saccos are also looking for a 'travelling partner' of Aubrey's named Steve Miller as well as three three Israeli hikers that checked in to the Langtang National Park about the same time as Aubrey. "Aubrey said she was with a person named Mitch and we later found out that his name was Steve Miller, she had been travelling with him for quite a long but had gotten tired of him by the time she got to Nepal," added Sacco.

He believed his daughter was still alive. "She is really a brave girl. She has travelled a lot. I am very much confident that she is alive," he added. TAAN, Nepal Tourism Board and Nepal Police along with some government agencies as well as the US Embassy in Kathmandu have been helping the family. Aubrey was scheduled to return to Kathmandu between April 29 and May 2.
