13-yr-old American conquers Everest
A 13-year-old American boy has broken the record by Temba Tsheri Sherpa to be the youngest climber of Mount Everest.
Jordan Romero reached the top of the world?s highest mountain on Saturday as part of his quest to climb the highest peaks on all seven continents. Sherpa had reached the summit at the age of 16.
"Their dreams have now come true. Everyone sounded unbelievably happy," a news statement on Jordan?s blog said Saturday morning.
The teenager had climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa when he was 10 years old.
Jordan, from Big Bear, California, climbed Everest with his father, his father's girlfriend and three Sherpa guides. He left for the peak from the base camp on the Chinese side after Nepal government denied him permission on age grounds.
Everest was Romero's first challenge above 8,000 meters (26,240 feet)
