Trek Overview

Your journey begins with a scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, one of the most thrilling airports in the world. From Lukla, the trail follows the Dudh Koshi River through charming Sherpa villages such as Phakding and Namche Bazaar, the bustling gateway to Everest.

After proper acclimatization in Namche Bazaar, the trek continues toward Tengboche, home to a famous monastery with stunning views of Ama Dablam. The trail then gradually ascends through Dingboche and Lobuche to reach Everest Base Camp.

Following the EBC exploration, you hike to Kala Patthar for a sunrise view over Mount Everest, offering the best close-up panorama of the world’s highest peak.

The adventure continues as you cross the high and challenging Cho La Pass, connecting the Everest Base Camp trail with the Gokyo Valley. This section requires good physical fitness and determination but rewards trekkers with dramatic glacier views and alpine landscapes.

In the Gokyo Valley, you will explore the pristine Gokyo Lakes and climb Gokyo Ri, which offers arguably the finest panoramic view in the Everest region, including Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu.

You will trek to the Everest base camp first and later on go towards the beautiful Gokyo Valley crossing Cho La pass. The high mountain pass standing at an elevation of 5,420 meters above sea level is one of the highlights of the trip. Cho La Pass not only connects the base camp and the Gokyo valley but also offers a challenge to the trekkers. 

You will trek through the challenging wilderness of the high mountains traversing the challenging trail up and down the mountains. This trip is certainly an adventure trekking experience of a lifetime.

We have planned a standard 17-day itinerary for this trekking adventure from your arrival to departure day in Kathmandu. However, the duration can vary depending on your itinerary and the pace of your trek. The itinerary can be customized to suit your needs.

The standard itinerary includes mandatory acclimatization days during the trek. It does not have a sightseeing tour in Kathmandu and any contingency day. If you want those to be in your itinerary, the trip will be of 19 days. 

So, the duration of the Everest Base Camp with Cho La Pass trek is dependant on your needs during the holiday.

The Everest Base Camp with Cho La Pass trek is considered a challenging trek that requires a good level of physical fitness. If you have any previous hiking experience, it will be an added advantage. 

The adventure involves trekking through the high-altitude wilderness of the Everest region. Walking through the barren mountains at a high altitude is challenging and needs a good fitness.

EBC Gokyo Lake via Cho La Pass Trek 2026/2027 Itinerary

This is the first day of trip that starts on the day you arrive to Kathmandu. Himalaya Heart Treks representative will be at the airport to welcome you on your arrival day. Our representative will take you to the hotel that you will be staying tonight. Later, in the evening, we will meet to talk about the trip details.

You will have time to freshen up, relax and adjust in new atmosphere until we meet up. We will introduce your trekking guide who will be looking after you on your adventure.You will have to prepare all the necessary things for the trek tonight as we are flying to Lukla tomorrow morning.

We get ready for our early morning flight to Lukla. We will tell you the departure time on your arrival day. The short but spectacularly beautiful flight takes us to Lukla airstrip that lets us in to the Everest region.

The flight to Lukla goes from Kathmandu and Ramechhap. Most of the flights to Lukla during the major trekking seasons are operated from Ramechhap. We will need to drive for about 4-5 hours from Kathmandu to Ramechhap. 

As we land at Lukla airport, beautiful snow-capped mountains will welcome us. We set off for the first day of our trekking adventure. The walk today is short and easy compared to what we are expecting in the days to come during the adventure. We are walking to Phakding today along the Dudh Koshi River Valley. Pristine nature, peaceful mountain ambience and beautiful mountain views welcome us in the wonderful Everest region. We stay overnight today at Phakding.

The second day of walk takes us into the Sagarmatha National Park. After enjoying our first breakfast in the mountain, we start the walking adventure for the day. We will trek to Namche Bazar today. Entering national park at Monjo check point, we trace the trail that leads us to our destination. We will past beautiful places and cross several hanging bridges over the river. We eventually reach Namche Bazar to stay overnight.

The beautiful settlement of Namche on the mountain slope will welcome us with its unique Everest charm. Checking into a guest house and relaxing at the peaceful atmosphere of Namche can be as rewarding as anything.

As we have already reached the elevation over 3,000 meters above sea level, we will need to take an extra day here at Namche to acclimatize. This acclimatization day at Namche will show us its wonderful surroundings. We can go for a hike to a nearby destination. The afternoon will be at Namche Bazar exploring the village.

We will continue our trekking adventure today. Our walk for the day will take us to Tengboche today. The trail today will meander up and down the mountain requiring us to put a little more effort to reach the destination.

Although the walk feels challenging, beautiful natural surroundings and views will motivate us to keep going. Once we reach Tengboche and check into a guest house, we can go for an exploration of the surroundings and the monastery there.

The walk to day will take us above 4,000 meters to stay overnight. We will trek to Dingboche village today. The trail offers peaceful nature walk with overwhelming view of the mountains.

Walking past the villages of Diboche and Pangboche, we trek towards Dingboche. The trail beautifully meanders up and down through the mountains. We can enjoy incredible views of Ama Dablam and other mountains from here.

We will take another day to acclimatize here at Dingboche. A day hiking exploration trip to one of the nearby destinations will be even more helpful in acclimatization and to make the day exciting. Stay overnight at Dingboche.

We are now ready to trek higher so we will continue on the adventure. The walk today will take us to Lobuche to stay overnight. The trail now enters the true mountain wilderness surrounded by gigantic mountain peaks.

We will walk across the trail along the glacial path. The glacial moraine and boulder-strewn trail will take us to Lobuche. As we are trekking in the high altitude, our pace will be slow on its own but eventually we make it to the destination to stay overnight.

The walk for the day today will take us to the final destination of our adventure – the Everest Base Camp. We trek to Gorakshep and check into a guest house before proceeding further towards the base camp.

We will hike to Everest Base Camp after the lunch to spend some quality moments at the base of the highest mountain in the world. It is a wonderful feeling of being at the base of the Mt. Everest. Later, we trek back to Gorakshep to stay overnight.

We will hike early morning to Kalapatthar. When we reach the wonderful viewpoint of Kalapatthar, we will be at the highest elevation on the trek. This place brings an awesome view of the Mt. Everest and other mountains in the range. We will also enjoy a beautiful sunrise over the mountains.

Later, we trek to Zongla to stay overnight. After trekking to the Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar, our destination now is Gokyo valley. So, we will walk towards Gokyo and Zongla is a popular overnight stay on the route.

The walk of the day today will take us past a high Himalayan pass of Cho La. When we are at Cho La on our walk, we will be at the elevation of 5,330 meters above sea level. The pass brings an awesome view of the mountains.

Walking across Cho La is a pretty challenging job but it is worth taking the challenge. We will descend to Thagnag to stay overnight after crossing the pass

It is a short day walk to Gokyo today. The trail will take us past wonderful mountain surroundings via moraine filled trail. Eventually, we reach the third of the Gokyo Lakes to stay overnight.

We will stay relaxed and explore the surroundings of the lake for the day. Spending the day on the glacial lake side fills us with the peace and joy. We stay overnight at a guest house in Gokyo.

We have early morning hike to Gokyo Ri to witness an enchating view of the Gokyo Lakes, glaciers and the mountains in the region.

After returning back to Gokyo Lake, we head further towards Machhermo to stay overnight today.

We will trek back to Namche Bazar today. The trek today is a descent of almost a thousand meters when we reach Namche Bazar. It will be a beautiful day of trekking back to the bustling Sherpa town in the Everest.

Our last day on the trail as we head back to Lukla for the flight the following day.

From Monjo the trail descends for a while back ove the Dudh Koshi over the suspension bridge then a short easy level walk to Benkar. We continue heading towards Lukla past Phakding. It is the time to celebrate the accomplishment with our trekking crew once we reach Lukla.

Time to leave this wonderful part of the world, at least for the time being. In the morning we take an early flight from Lukla to Kathmandu or Ramechhap. On arrival in Kathmandu you will be transfered to the hotel. The afternoon is free and in the evening we often arrange a farewell meal.
