Welcome to Nepal! Upon your arrival, we will meet you in the arrivals hall at Kathmandu airport, and assist you to your hotel. We will have a trip briefing meeting after you settle in if your arrival is early in the day. If you have a late scheduled arrival, we will conduct our briefing at breakfast the following morning.
It is a preparation and acclimatization day in Kathmandu before we set off for the trekking adventure. We will go for a sightseeing tour of cultural heritage monuments in Kathmandu valley. The heritage tour in Kathmandu is a rich cultural, historical and spiritual immersion that takes us right back to the ancient time when Kathmandu valley used to be a lake. We visit Swoyambhunath aka monkey temple, Patan Durbar Square – a medieval palace square, Pashupatinath to see Hindu cremation on the bank of River Bagmati, and finally Boudhanath – the largest Buddhist stupa. We will return back to hotel leaving ample time to go for any last minute preparation of the big trekking adventure to the Annapurna Base Camp.
We will check out of the hotel in Kathmandu early in the morning for our drive to Pokhara. We will travel by tourist bus to the beautiful lake city, about 200 km west of Kathmandu. The trip is about 7 hours, meandering over hills and through the valleys of beautiful, rural Nepal. Quaint local towns and villages, wonderful surrounding landscapes, and a peaceful atmosphere along the roads make for a wonderful introduction to Nepal. Once we reach Pokhara, we will have time to explore the lakeside after checking into our hotel. The rest of the day we will spend relaxing and/or exploring the sights of Pokhara.
In the morning, we will make the short (approximately one hour) drive to Kande to begin our trek Since it is our first day, our walk today is short, so that we can spend more time enjoying spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. We are making our way toward Mardi Himal Base Camp, and will spend our first night at the famous Australian Camp.
Today, our destination is the village of Tolkha. We are surrounded by wondrous nature and continued views of the mountains as the trail goes first through the villages of Pothana and Pitam Deurali before we arrive in Tolkha village. Along the way, we walk through lush rhododendron trees and other spectacular blooming plants and flowers. We enter into the Modi Khola valley as we start trekking towards Tolkha from Deurali. The wonderful Modi River comes from the Annapurna Sanctuary and it makes for a wonderful, lush valley all along its course.
On our trek today to Chhomrong, we descend first to the Modi River and then continue towards our destination by following the course of the river. Chhomrong is reached after a steep uphill trek from Kimrong Khola, just below Jhinu Danda. Chhomrong is an ethnic Gurung settlement where we can observe the culture and lifestyle of the local people. We stay overnight here in Chhomrong.
Today, we leave the trail that leads to Annapurna Base Camp behind and turn instead toward Tadapani. First, though, we make our way to Ghorepani. After a descent to the river, we begin our ascent to Tadapani. Although it’s a beautiful walk along the reiver and varied landscapes, we don’t see the Himalaya until we reach our destination. Here in Tadapani, though, we have close up, gorgeous views of several Himalayan peaks.
Leaving Tadapani, today we will trek to Dobato. Leaving the more populated Annapurna Base Camp and Ghorepani Poon Hill trails to others, we start walking in the direction of Khopra, but first we will walk through Mesar, where we will have some of the best views in the area of the Annapurna range. Then, on to Isaru, before we reach Dobato, our destination for today.
Ghorepani is our destination today. We continue the walk towards Deurali via Mulde hill. The hill is a wonderful viewpoint from whch to witness the majestic charm of the Annapurna range. After Deurali we meet up with another route coming from Tadapani, and from there we continue on to Ghorepani, a beautiful little village with outstanding views in all directions.
Today, we wake up before the break of dawn and start hiking towards the Poon Hill viewpoint. After about 45 minutes of uphill walking through rhododendron forest, we will arrive at Poon Hill, where we will be well-rewarded for our efforts with one of the most spectacular views of the mountains in both the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range. It is a magical sunrise over the mountains, before we head back to Ghorepani for breakfast and then on to Tikhedhunga, where will overnight.
Today is our last trekking day, and we will follow the dirt road to Nayapul, where we will meet our transportation. We drive back to Pokhara for some well-earned relaxation time along the lake or enjoying a stroll around town.
Today, we retrace our return bus ride to Kathmandu or, if you prefer, there is a flight option for an additional cost. Once we are back in Kathmandu, you will have free time to relax and spend your time however you wish.
