We are going to start the trek today towards the Everest Base Camp. Before starting the trek, we need to fly to Lukla, the gateway to Everest. We take a flight to Lukla either from Kathmandu or from Ramechhap. If we take a flight from Ramechhap, we need to drive for 5 hours before boarding the plane. It is a 40-minute flight to Lukla from Kathmandu where as it is just a 20 minute flight from Ramechhap.
After landing at Lukla airport and getting ready for the walk of the day, we head towards Phakding to call it a day. We check into a teahouse at Phakding and settle for the day to relax.
It’s the day to enter Sagarmatha National Park. Sagarmatha is the Nepali name for Mt. Everest. We reach Monjo and check into the national park and continue the journey towards Namche as our overnight destination. We will have to walk across several suspension bridges as we proceedforward to Namche. Namche Bazar is the most happening place in the region with bars, restaurants, ATM machine, shops and internet cafes. We will reach Namche after walking for about 6 hours along the rugged mountain track surrounded by wonderful landscapes.
We spend an extra night here at Namche today to acclimatize. But we will have a busy day exploring the surroundings. We can hike to Khumjung village and explore the Sherpa cultural wonders of the village. We will have enough time to explore Namche bazar later in the afternoon. The hiking trip to the higher elevation helps us adjust with the climate in increasing altitude. We stay overnight at Namche.
Another day of trekking through mountain trail puts us on the way to the Monastic village of Tengboche. A small and quaint village with a beautiful monastery, Tengboche offers a wonderful view of the mountains. We will visit the monastery and try to feel the spiritual air present in there. The spirituality in the air of mountains will keep us motivated to go further higher towards the base camp.
We will trek to Dingboche today via Pangboche village. We will be above 4,000 meters today at an already amazing elevation of 4,410 meters above sea level. The trek to Dingboche is full of natural and cultural wonders that we will come across along the trail. We will stop at Pangboche for a while to explore its monastic wonder and to enjoy the surroundings before heading to Dingboche for overnight stay.
Another acclimatization day before heading to the base camp is due today. We are going to spend an extra night here at Dingboche today. Like all acclimatization stops on this trip, we will go for a hike today as well. Hiking to a higher elevation and coming back to sleep at lower elevation helps us to acclimatize well and thus, lowering the risk of altitude sickness.
On the ninth day of the trip, we will trek to Lobcuhe today. We will follow the walking trail through glacial moraine and boulder strewn area. We walk past Dughla and reach Lobuche to stay overnight.
Ultimately, the day to reach the Everest Base Camp has arrived. It has been a great adventure walking through the mountains for a few days now and it has brought us to the base camp of the highest mountain in the world. We trek to the base camp via Gorakshep where we are spending our overnight today. We spend some time at the base camp at collect memories and pictures to take back with us. After spending some time at the Everest Base Camp, we trek back to Gorakshep to stay overnight.
Although we have reached the Everest Base Camp, we still have to walk higher today. It is an early morning hike to Kalapatthar to be at the elevation of 5,545 meters above sea level. Kalapatthar is a great vantage point to enjoy mountain vistas including Mt. Everest right in front of us. We will enjoy the mountains and sunrise from Kalapatthar and head back down to Gorakshep. Later, we will trek to Pheriche to stay overnight.
We trek back to Namche Bazar via Tengboche. Namche Bazar is the most happening place in the region with bars, restaurants, ATM machine, shops and internet cafes. We will reach Namche after walking for about 6 hours along the rugged mountain track surrounded by wonderful landscapes.
We trace the same trail back to Lukla today. We bring our trekking part in the Everest Base Camp Trek to an end here. Twelve days in the mountains have been so wonderful and the experience of reaching the Everest Base Camp and Kalapatthar is indescribable. We wonder how great the trek was and how it has left an everlasting impression upon us.
We fly back to Kathmandu. We will have free time to relax in Kathmandu after these wonderful mountain days and trekking experience.

The typical duration of the Everest Base Camp Budget Trek is around 12 to 14 days. This includes several days for acclimatization, which are crucial for preventing altitude sickness. The itinerary generally starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by trekking through Phakding, Namche Bazaar, Tengboche, Dingboche, Lobuche, Gorak Shep, and finally reaching Everest Base Camp. The return journey follows the same route back to Lukla.

The best time for the Everest Base Camp Budget Trek is during the pre-monsoon (spring) season from March to May and the post-monsoon (autumn) season from September to November. These periods offer stable weather, clear skies, and moderate temperatures, making the trekking conditions ideal. The spring season also brings blooming rhododendrons and other flora, adding to the scenic beauty of the trek.
The Everest Base Camp Budget Trek is considered moderately difficult. It involves daily trekking for 5-7 hours at high altitudes, with significant elevation gains. While no technical climbing skills are required, trekkers should be physically fit and prepared for the challenges of altitude. Proper acclimatization days are built into the itinerary to help trekkers adjust to the thinning air and reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

Best experience on EBC trek!
I had a really good time on my EBC trek, my guide Arjun was very helpful, as he helped carry some of my things and told me exactly what was needed as we climbed up. He even paid for my lunches and dinner on the road, and I paid him back at the end of each day to make it easier for me. It was a tiring journey and quite cold at night, but I was very lucky with the weather being clear the whole time, so I had an amazing view of Everest. I highly recommend booking with Himalaya Heart Treks & Expeditions as they make everything easy and convenient, such as airport pickups and accommodation in mountains.
