The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is ideal for people limited by time or if you have a young family. The sunrise over Poon Hill, a hilltop and excellent sunrise view point with magnificent panoramic views of both the Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan Ranges, is one of the highlights of the Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek, among many others. It is not a difficult trek, but it is an excellent introduction to trekking and mountain culture in a stunning setting. The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek is one of the finest and shortest Himalayan journeys in Nepal.
The Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek begins just north of the beautiful lakeside town of Pokhara. Known for being the most scenic short trek in Nepal, the trail leads you through lush sub-tropical forest rich with wildlife, pretty villages with neatly terraced rice fields, and along some great ridges that provide spectacular Himalayan panoramas. En route, there are several old villages and hamlets dotted along this trail, along with some fantastic rhododendron forests and crystal-clear rivers to enjoy. The area is more developed than most other trekking routes; one advantage of this is that accommodations and facilities are better. Most of the lodges have good facilities, hot showers, and good food, with Wi-Fi widely available. Local life and tradition, however, are still very much alive.
Himalaya Heart Treks will look after you all the way. Our mountain guides have spent many years leading groups at both low and high altitudes and are well equipped to deal with any problems. Our teams are always well prepared, and we provide our porters and support staff with excellent equipment. We operate Ghorepani Poon Hill Treks in small groups.
After breakfast, we drive to Birethati, which takes about 2 hours. Birethati is where both the Poon Hill Trek and the Annapurna Base Camp Trek start. Our Ghorepani Poon Hill Trek leads us through lovely villages, rice fields, rivers, and hills. Along the way, you'll go through villages like Birethati, Sonari, Hill, Tikhedhunga, and Ulleri. You’ll have to climb 900 meters from Birethati to Ulleri. After Tikhedhunga, the path gets steeper up to Ulleri. Ulleri is one of the biggest and nicest Magar villages on the trek, with great views. We’ll stay overnight at a cozy local guest house in Ulleri.
Today we make our way to Ghorepani. The trail is a long but steady incline passing small waterfalls and streams along the way to the village of Ghorepani. It is tougher than yesterday as we have to climb 3300 steps the reward is well worth it though from Ghorepani we have some fantastic snow capped views of Annapurna South Dhualagiri and Macchapucchare.
The trek to Poon Hill (3210 m) is a must for us.We make the walk up before dawn to this celebrated viewpoint before the first light of dawn. Sunrise over the Annapurnas is an unforgettable experience,We follow up the well-marked path by the light of our head torches, reaching the summit as the first rays of the sun illuminate Dhaulagiri and Tukuche Peak with a beautiful pink glow. The walk takes around 45 minutes. After enjoying the view, we retrace our steps to Ghorepani for a hearty breakfast, before setting off on our trek to Tadapani. A short early morning climb to the Deurali pass for a spectacular panorama over Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. The trail descends steeply through the dense moss-covered forest with rich bird life to Tadapani which also provides a lovely close-up sunset view.
Today the trekking trail is a lot easier as it descends steeply through rhododendron forests to Baise Kharka. On the way there are troops of monkeys and a wide varietiy of birds. The right-hand trail makes a short, steep descent among rocks to a stream crossing then leads out a ridge towards Ghandruk. Ghandruk is a beautiful village, the second largest Gurung village in Nepal. We reach there for lunch and we have the afternoon to explore the maze-like streets of this thriving old Gurung settlement. There are some splendid mountain views of Annapurna South and Fishtail from Ghandruk.
After Breakfast in Ghandruk we have another easy day to end our trek. The trail passes through small hamlets, terraced rice fields and subtropical forests. We head down to the valley floor then mostly follow the ever-flowing Modi Khola. Its an easy and very pleasant walk to Birethanti and a fitting end to some fabulous days in the mountains. We take lunch in Birethanti before continuing our walk to Nayapul to meet our private vehicle for the one hour drive back to Pokhara and the transfer to our Hotel.

8 day trek
Myself and my fiancee had an amazing time on our trek with our guide Ram Timalsina and porter Narayan Neupane. We had originally planned to do an 8 day hike to ABC however it would have been quite rushed so we decided to alter our route to end off at Poon Hill. Ram was fantastic in helping us make these changes and made our experience very enjoyable. Accommodations on the mountain and food through the trek was fantastic and the trek was extremely well organized. I would highly recommend Himalaya Heart Treks for those considering coming to Nepal and doing some hiking!

One of the Beast Holiday
I would definitely recommend Himalaya Heart. Communication before the trek was excellent and all the arrangements worked well and efficiently. A good and informative guide in Hira, he really added to the overall experience: a fabulous 5 day trek staying in lodges in small villages. Trekking is spectacular in places and never less than inspiring. Rhododendron forest, rivers and waterfalls, buffalo working in the terraced fields, grey langur monkeys in the trees, and then the breathtaking Machhapuchhre appearing through a gap in the vegetation.
The trek was hard at times, up and up stone steps, but then worth every tread as you gaze at the scenery and the mountains. Sunrise at Poon Hill, a clear dawn in Tadopani and arrival in Ghandruk with the Annapurna range in full view was as near to paradise as you can get!
A wholehearted recommendation of Himalaya Heart. Many thanks Thakur, Shital and all the team, we will certainly be back again.

Nepal trip 2024
If you come to Nepal, book Shital Dharel. He is the best!
Apr 2024 • Family
We are a family from Zurich/Switzerland with two sons (9 and 12 years old). In April 2024 we visited Kathmandu and from there we travelled to Pokhara and trekked to Poon Hill. Shital was our guide. We have travelled a lot and all over the world, from South America to the Middle East and Oceania. We have never had such a warm, helpful, competent and thoughtful guide as Shital. He organised everything perfectly, immediately provided alternatives in the event of problems (cancelled flights due to forest fires) and also helped us in all other situations (with the children: nausea during the trip, etc.).
Therefore: If you come to Nepal, book Shital Dharel. He is the best!

Apr 2024 • Couples
We have just finished an amazing hike with our guide Thakur and porter Dinnes around the Annapurna range. Everything was so well organised, all we had to do was hike! Thakur and Dinnes were extremely attentive and great company along the way. Would highly recommend Himalaya Heart Treks & Expedition and we cannot wait to come back for our next trek.

Me and friend went on a 6 day trek to Poon Hill .
Hari was an absolute gem! He took us to some of the most secluded spots with stunning panoramic views of the Himalayas. And let me tell you, the sunrise we witnessed was absolutely magical!
Hari's knowledge of the area was impressive, and he knew all the hidden gems that offered the best views. He made sure we had plenty of time to soak in the beauty and take amazing photos. Plus, his enthusiasm for nature and the mountains was contagious!
He made sure all the guesthouse we stayed in were warm for the cold cold nights and had a hot shower and wasn’t too crowded from other tourists .
I can't recommend Hari enough as a guide. He made our trek through the foothills an unforgettable experience, and I'm so grateful for the memories we created together. If you're looking for a guide who will take you to secluded spots and show you the most beautiful views, Hari is the one! 🏔️🌅
