Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return is a trek in style by taking a helicopter flight back to Kathmandu from the base camp. It is a luxury trekking adventure to the base camp of the highest mountain on earth. This trip allows you to enjoy the trek and at the same time, you can travel in style adding the comfort of helicopter flight.
You will fly to the Everest region on a regular flight from Kathmandu or Ramechhap. The trek will go on the same trail that other trekkers take. It is the same trek as our Everest Base Camp Trek but the only difference is that you will fly back from Gorakshep instead of trekking back.
Adding a helicopter flight back not only makes your adventure more comfortable but also shorter. You will save 3 days that you need if you trek back to Lukla.
After trekking for all those 8 challenging days going higher toward the base camp, you deserve a little more comfort. When you add the helicopter flight option to your trek, it makes the adventure possible in fewer days.
Although luxury and adventure may not be the terms that co-exist most often, this adventure blends the bot perfectly. You trek like other trekkers along the trail and take rest days in Namche and Dingboche. It is necessary for everyone trekking to the Everest base camp to take an acclimatization break along the trail.
The special treatment about this adventure is that you are flying back on a helicopter while many others trek back to Lukla. You will also do the same if you go on a regular Everest base camp trek.
While the addition of the helicopter flight from Gorakshep is an upgrade, you can make the adventure even more luxurious. Wondering how? You can make this trek more luxurious by adding luxury accommodations in the places available along the trail.
There are luxury lodges available in many places along the trail and you can upgrade your accommodation there. Most of the accommodations in the Everest base camp trekking route are basic lodges while some places have luxury options too Adding luxury accommodations in the places along the trail where available can make your trek much more luxurious.
Let us know if you want to make your Everest base camp trek a luxury adventure.
You may be wondering about the cost of the Everest base camp trek with a helicopter return. Since the trip involves a helicopter flight, it costs more than the trek with a regular flight to Lukla. However, the experience you get when you have the luxury of a helicopter flight is worth the price.
When you go on the trek, the cost you pay will cover most of your expenses from accommodation to food and guide and porter to flight costs. More than what the cost brings you in terms of logistics, the experience you get will be more memorable.
After trekking for eight days in the wilderness of the Everest region, you are flying back on a helicopter. You fly back on the day when you hike to Kalapatthar from Gorakshep. Although you already trekked to the Everest base camp the previous day, you can also take a short helicopter flight to the Everest base camp before heading back.
You can enjoy the view of the base camp from the air. The flight will take you back to Lukla for a short trip and then fly to Kathmandu. It will be a beautiful flight that brings some awe-inspiring views of the Himalayas from the air.

The Everest Base Camp Trek with Helicopter Return is a unique trekking experience that allows trekkers to hike up to Everest Base Camp and then return to Kathmandu via helicopter. This option provides stunning aerial views of the Himalayas and saves time, making it ideal for those with limited time.
The trek typically takes around 12 days, including acclimatization days and the helicopter flight back to Kathmandu. The itinerary can be customized based on your preferences and schedule.
The best times for the trek are during the pre-monsoon (March to May) and post-monsoon (September to November) seasons. These periods offer stable weather, clear skies, and the best views of the mountains.
A moderate to high level of fitness is required for the Everest Base Camp Trek. Trekkers should be prepared for long days of walking, often 6-8 hours, on varied terrain. Prior trekking experience is beneficial but not mandatory.
Essential items include trekking boots, warm clothing, a good quality sleeping bag, a first aid kit, trekking poles, and personal items like toiletries and a camera. It's important to pack light yet ensure you have all the necessary gear for varying weather conditions
Yes, trekkers need several permits including the Sagarmatha National Park Permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Permit. These permits are necessary to enter the Everest region and trek to Base Camp.
Accommodations on the trek are mainly in teahouses, which provide basic facilities including meals, beds, and shared bathrooms. Some teahouses offer hot showers and Wi-Fi for an additional fee.
You can book the trek through various trekking agencies that offer customized packages. It's advisable to choose a reputable agency that provides experienced guides, proper acclimatization schedules, and good safety standards.
Altitude sickness is a significant risk on the Everest Base Camp Trek. Symptoms include headaches, nausea, and dizziness. Proper acclimatization, staying hydrated, and ascending slowly are crucial to prevent altitude sickness.
The cost varies depending on the trekking agency, inclusions, and time of year. On average, the trek with helicopter return can cost between $2,500 to $4,900 per person, including permits, accommodation, meals, and the helicopter flight.
For group treks (treks that start on a specific date and are open for travelers to join), the group size can range from 2-10 people but typically ends up being around 4-6 people.
If you fall ill during your trek, the course of action depends on what’s wrong. If it’s altitude sickness, moving to lower altitudes and taking altitude medication will solve this in most cases; if it’s severe, our guide will arrange for an emergency evacuation by helicopter Himalayan Heart will cover the initial costs then claim from your insurer (be sure that emergency helicopter rescue is covered in your travel insurance it is an essential requirement before travelling with us). The best trip with the best guide!
My mother and I just got home from a 2-week trip to hike the Everest Base Camp track.
We were guided by Hari, who came strongly recommended via multiple reviews online and was just as fabulous in person.
From touching down in Kathmandu, the team at Himalaya Heart were waiting for us with Marigold flowers to show us some true Nepalese culture.
Our first day we were taken around Thamel, to ensure we had all the equipment required. We did bring most things as described on the packing list given to us before departure however it was handy to go around with our guide to make sure we had the final things before we departed.
From the morning we left out hotel, our guide Hari, constantly made sure we were comfortable and well informed on what was going on ahead of us. We were fortunate because they managed to organise us a helicopter from Kathmandu to Lukla, ensuring we had a safe and easy trip up the hill.
Each night our accommodation provided to us along the trek was fabulous, with Hari continuously ensuring we have the best options provided to us.
Upon mealtime, he would also check with the chef's at each hotel to see what produce was the freshest to ensure we were always eating quality and healthy food.
Over the course of the next 8 days, we trekked from Lukla to EBC while maintaining a solid pace and feeling very strong. The guidance provided to us from our guide Hari definitely helped us achieve our goals of reaching base camp.
If you are contemplating booking with Himilaya Heart Treks, I would strongly consider you do because my mother and I cannot recommend them strongly enough.
Thank you for making the trek one we will remember for a lifetime.

Great Experience
We did the Everest Base Camp trek with Himalaya Heart, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience! We had the honor of the first trek with them since COVID hit, and the disruption didn’t seem to have knocked them off their stride at all.
Our guide Hari picked us up personally at the airport, and he was a consummate pro. We couldn’t have asked for better in a guide: Hari was knowledgeable, courteous, spoke great English, and was always one step ahead (literally and figuratively) in anticipating what we would need and when we would need it. More than that, he was just a great all-around guy, and by the end of the trip we could honestly say we considered him not just a guide, but also a friend.
On the logistics side, Himalaya Heart was up front with all the info we needed, and they were very responsive to our questions via email and WhatsApp. The price they quoted never changed, and they were very clear about what was and was not included in our trek package. They even facilitated our COVID tests for our return travel so we didn’t have to worry about how we would get that done. Thakur and Shital were honest brokers who obviously cared about our experience, and they went out of their way to ensure we were completely satisfied.
I highly recommend Himalaya Heart for trekking in Nepal, particularly if you are looking to support a reasonably-priced, local company. These guys handle their business like pros, and I would use them again with no hesitation.
