The Everest Base Camp Trek is one of the most scenic trekking adventures in the world. Situated at an elevation of 5,363 metres above sea level, the base camp of Mt. Everest is a stunning destination that any trekker dreams of having in their life. Trekking to Everest base camp offers a beautiful experience of exploring the wilderness of the Everest region.
Many people confuse trekking to the base camp with climbing to the top of the mountain. But that is not the case. You will be walking along the beautiful trail, and you do not require any technical climbing skills to be on this trip. Although it is a walking trip, you should definitely prepare yourself in a holistic way. As a high-altitude trekking tour, the trek demands a good level of physical fitness and mental readiness. We will talk about it in detail later. Tripadvisor
If there is something called an adventure of a lifetime, it happens when you trek to the base camp of Mt. Everest. There are many factors that make this trek an incredible experience, from the snow-capped mountains to the local Sherpa people and their lifestyle.
As soon as you start the trek from Lukla, the trail brings so many beautiful things to you. You will find yourself amidst beautiful nature and mountains where you can breathe refreshing air. Walking through the trail in such pristine surroundings is simply an incredible experience. As you trek towards a higher altitude towards the base camp, you will walk past many beautiful settlements. You will get to explore the local lifestyle and talk to the welcoming locals.
Everest base camp trekking altitude is an important thing to know and consider before you book the trek.
Do you already know how high the trek goes? If you did not have any idea, we are giving you the details.
The Everest Base Camp is 5,363 metres above sea level, but it is not the highest altitude that you reach on the trek. You will reach 5,545 metres above sea level when you hike to Kalapatthar, which is the highest altitude on the trek.
When you start the trek at Lukla, you will be at 2860 metres of altitude, and when you are at Kalapatthar, you will be standing at 5,545 metres above sea level. It was a massive altitude gain during the trek to EBC.
Another important piece of information that you should know before booking the trip is about the Everest base camp trek itinerary. If you know how many days you will need to do the trek, it will be easier for you to plan the adventure.
Our Everest base camp trekking itinerary is 15 days in total in Nepal. It counts from your arrival day in Nepal to your departure from the country. You will spend three nights in Kathmandu and eleven nights in the Everest region. The itinerary consists of a sightseeing tour in Kathmandu, trekking days, and acclimatization days along the trail. When you trek to a high altitude, like the one to Everest base camp, acclimatization days are an important part of the plan. These days are helpful in high-altitude trekking as they give us enough time to adjust to the changing elevation of the mountains.
The two acclimatization days at Namche Bazar and Dingboche are an integral part of the itinerary while trekking up towards the base camp.
So, when you plan to go on the EBC trek with us, you will need to have at least 15 days to spend in Nepal. You can complete the Everest Base Camp Trek in 12 days from Kathmandu to Kathmandu.
When you plan a trekking adventure to the base camp of Mt. Everest, one of the exciting things about it is the flight to Lukla. The small airstrip in the small village of Lukla is one of the most adventurous airports in the world. You can fly to Lukla from Kathmandu and Ramechhap to start your trek. It is a short and yet wonderful mountain flight. You will love the experience of flying on a small plane to the mountains.
When you fly to Lukla from Kathmandu, it takes you about 35–40 minutes, and when you do it from Ramechhap, the flight time is only 15–20 minutes. But when you take a flight from Ramechhap to Lukla, you will need to drive for 5 hours to reach Ramechhap from Kathmandu to catch the flight.
Physical and mental preparedness for the EBC Trek
One of the most important aspects of the EBC trek is your preparedness. Since the trek demands physical and mental involvement, you have to get strong physically and mentally. With a little bit of regular training for physical and mental toughness, you can achieve this.
Doing regular cardio and strength training and walking as much as you can will keep you in shape for the trek. You will need to walk for 11 days up and down the mountains. The trail has some serious stairs that you need to walk past. So, keeping your physical and mental strength in shape is essential for the EBC trekking adventure.

Yes. All of the necessary permits and conservation fees for your trek are included in the price and will be arranged for you by Himalaya Heart prior to your trek. (we prefer doing this on line before your arrival) For certain restricted regions (like Manaslu and Upper Mustang) we need to have a full day in Kathmandu prior to your trek as we need your passport for the permit registration.
We have fixed departures clearly stated in the website otherwise if you are planning to make your tour specific to you and your group the tour starts on the date that works best for you.Typically, you need 2 days in Kathmandu prior to your trek.
You can leave your additional luggage at your hotel in Kathmandu or at our company office in Thamel. Either way, your luggage will be waiting for you at your hotel when you return back from your trek.
You can buy virtually everything you need for trekking from down jackets to water bottles in Kathmandu. There is a variety of branded stores as well as a large selection of copied products mainly in Thamel that are of fairly good quality. It’s still worth bringing your own gear if it doesn’t take up too much weight, especially your own trekking boots to avoid any potential issues when purchasing new shoes.
You should bring trekking boots that are comfortable and broken in. There can be some snow at higher altitudes especially when crossing high passes, so it’s good to be prepared for a variety of conditions. Your footwear should be strong and durable. It should have a chunky sole—preferably made of Vibram or another durable material—and should also protect your ankles.
Tipping is not required but is expected, and really depends on how happy you were with the service. Guides (both for trekking and cultural tours), porters, and drivers are typically provided with a tip at the end of their service with you.
Most days in the mountains involve 4-6 hours and longer of trekking. When you consider your day starts at 8 am and ends around 4-5 pm, it’s not too arduous as you’ll be taking a number of breaks and stopping for lunch along the way. The higher you get in elevation (especially in the Everest region), the shorter your trekking days will get to ensure we minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
If you fall ill during your trek, the course of action depends on what’s wrong. If it’s altitude sickness, moving to lower altitudes and taking altitude medication will solve this in most cases; if it’s severe, our guide will arrange for an emergency evacuation by helicopter Himalayan Heart will cover the initial costs then claim from your insurer (be sure that emergency helicopter rescue is covered in your travel insurance it is an essential requirement before travelling with us). If you have stomach sickness or another type of food or water-related illness, our guide will have medication on-hand for most common illnesses.
You only need to carry your day pack with daily essentials (sunblock, water, hat, light jacket, and camera) Our porters carry the bulk of your gear, such as extra clothing and overnight essentials.
All of our guides at Himalaya Heart speak English and have had many years of experience in guiding foreign travelers. It’s a requirement that they all are trained in first aid as well and we carry a first aid kit during the trek.
For group treks (treks that start on a specific date and are open for travelers to join), the group size can range from 2-10 people but typically ends up being around 4-6 people.
The cost of the Everest Base Camp Trek can vary depending on the season and the level of luxury you prefer. The cost includes permits, guides, and porters, as well as accommodation and meals.
The average cost of the Everest Base Camp Trek is around $1200 to $2000 per person, depending on the itinerary and the level of luxury you prefer. It is recommended to book the trek through a reputable tour operator to ensure a safe and comfortable trekking experience.
The Everest Base Camp Trek requires two permits: the Sagarmatha National Park Permit and the Trekkers Information Management System (TIMS) permit. The Sagarmatha National Park Permit costs $34, and the TIMS permit costs $20 for individual trekkers and $10 for group trekkers.
The permits can be obtained from the Nepal Tourism Board office in Kathmandu or from the checkpoints along the trail. It is essential to carry the permits at all times during the trek.
A good quality packing list is essential for a comfortable and safe trekking experience. The essential items for the Everest Base Camp Trek include:

Nepal Trek
My mother and I just got home from a 2-week trip to hike the Everest Base Camp track.
We were guided by Hari, who came strongly recommended via multiple reviews online and was just as fabulous in person.
From touching down in Kathmandu, the team at Himalaya Heart were waiting for us with Marigold flowers to show us some true Nepalese culture.
Our first day we were taken around Thamel, to ensure we had all the equipment required. We did bring most things as described on the packing list given to us before departure however it was handy to go around with our guide to make sure we had the final things before we departed.
From the morning we left out hotel, our guide Hari, constantly made sure we were comfortable and well informed on what was going on ahead of us. We were fortunate because they managed to organise us a helicopter from Kathmandu to Lukla, ensuring we had a safe and easy trip up the hill.
Each night our accommodation provided to us along the trek was fabulous, with Hari continuously ensuring we have the best options provided to us.
Upon mealtime, he would also check with the chef's at each hotel to see what produce was the freshest to ensure we were always eating quality and healthy food.
Over the course of the next 8 days, we trekked from Lukla to EBC while maintaining a solid pace and feeling very strong. The guidance provided to us from our guide Hari definitely helped us achieve our goals of reaching base camp.
If you are contemplating booking with Himilaya Heart Treks, I would strongly consider you do because my mother and I cannot recommend them strongly enough.
Thank you for making the trek one we will remember for a lifetime.

Beautiful views, challenging and extremely enjoyable
(Everest Base Camp) The trek was challenging, however it was very rewarding. The scenes are amazing throughout the entire trek, only getting better each day. We went during off-peak time (early December), so it wasn't as packed as most other times. Above all, our guide, Dripendra, was beyond amazing. He catered to our pace, whether it be faster or slower, educated us about difference sites along the trek, and was very enjoyable to hang around.

Amazing trek wit Himalaya Heart
So pleased to have found Himalaya Heart and based on feedback on sites like this chose them for our trek. We could not have been better looked after from start to finish, proved to be such a good decision to use this local business run by guides rather than one of the big companies. It was just myself and my son and we wanted to go ourselves rather than in a big group. Thakur was responsive and helpful with Emails before the trek which helped us with planning, what kit to bring etc. We were met at the airport by Milan and from that moment Himalaya Heart looked after us perfectly. Our guide Arjun I had already read the great reviews of, and he was fantastic, we had total faith in him and he made the trip run so smoothly. He was our guide, companion, cards and chess opponent, waiter, doctor and always had the next leg planned and teahouse booked. He looked after me when I got sick at Lobuche and altered our plans so that we took a rest day there to recover, and then did Kala Patthar in a day and back from Lobuche meaning we had the summit to ourselves, which was simply magical. Our ever smiling porter Ram (or Super-Ram as we came to describe him), was brilliant also, always beating us to our destination despite carrying both our duffle bags. Amazing respect for these guys. At the end of the trek Hari took us out for dinner in Kathmandu which was a very nice touch. We had some time left so booked a White Water rafting trip through Hari which was perfectly organised too. Milan, who had met us at the airport on our arrival, also took us to the airport when the time came to leave. Never I have had such amazing customer care, and am so happy I chose to support a local growing business run by guides, I wish them all the success they deserve, and when we return we will for sure be booking with them again. My son wants to bring his mates back and do Island Peak, and I may see if I can persuade my wife to come and do the Annapurna Panorama trip (Hari's recommendation). For a first time visitor to Nepal all I can say is I am so pleased that we went, it exceeded all my expectations, and Himalaya Heart made it so easy (well, apart from walking up the big hills, that bit was still hard).

Amazing trip
We did the Everest Base Camp trek with Himalaya Heart, and we couldn’t be happier with our experience! We had the honor of the first trek with them since COVID hit, and the disruption didn’t seem to have knocked them off their stride at all.
Our guide Hari picked us up personally at the airport, and he was a consummate pro. We couldn’t have asked for better in a guide: Hari was knowledgeable, courteous, spoke great English, and was always one step ahead (literally and figuratively) in anticipating what we would need and when we would need it. More than that, he was just a great all-around guy, and by the end of the trip we could honestly say we considered him not just a guide, but also a friend.
On the logistics side, Himalaya Heart was up front with all the info we needed, and they were very responsive to our questions via email and WhatsApp. The price they quoted never changed, and they were very clear about what was and was not included in our trek package. They even facilitated our COVID tests for our return travel so we didn’t have to worry about how we would get that done. Thakur and Shital were honest brokers who obviously cared about our experience, and they went out of their way to ensure we were completely satisfied.
I highly recommend Himalaya Heart for trekking in Nepal, particularly if you are looking to support a reasonably-priced, local company. These guys handle their business like pros, and I would use them again with no hesitation.
