The 6-Day Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek offers a condensed yet exhilarating adventure through one of Nepal's most iconic trekking regions. Starting from the scenic city of Pokhara, this trek allows participants to experience a diverse range of landscapes, from terraced farmlands and dense rhododendron forests to the alpine terrain of the Annapurna Sanctuary.

Despite its brevity, this short ABC trek is packed with cultural and natural wonders, making it a perfect option for trekkers with limited time who still wish to witness the grandeur of the Himalayas.

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trekking Route

Short Annapurna Base Camp trek begins with a drive from Pokhara to Siwai, followed by a trek through beautiful villages like Jhinu Danda, Chhomrong, and Bamboo. Each village offers unique insights into the local Gurung and Magar cultures, with their traditional houses, hospitable locals, and vibrant community life. The path is adorned with blooming rhododendrons, bamboo groves, and cascading waterfalls, providing trekkers with an ever-changing backdrop of natural beauty.

As the journey progresses, the trail ascends through the Modi Khola valley, leading to higher elevations where the landscape transforms into a rugged alpine environment. Trekkers pass through the Machapuchare Base Camp (MBC) before reaching the Annapurna Base Camp. The base camp, situated at an altitude of 4,130 meters (13,549 feet), is a natural amphitheater surrounded by towering peaks, including Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and Machapuchare. The panoramic views from ABC are nothing short of spectacular, offering a 360-degree views of snow-capped summits.

The return journey retraces the steps back to Pokhara, allowing trekkers to revisit and appreciate the landscapes and villages from a new perspective. Despite the challenges of altitude and terrain, the trek is designed to be achievable within six days, making it an ideal choice for those who want a comprehensive trekking experience in a short timeframe. The 6-Day Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek is not only a physical challenge but also a deeply rewarding journey that immerses trekkers in the natural splendor and cultural richness of the Annapurna region.

Short Annapurna Base Camp Trek 2025/2026 Itinerary Expand All Close All

On the first day of our adventure in Nepal, we'll leave the busy city of Kathmandu and head towards Pokhara via the Prithvi Highway. You can choose to travel by tourist bus or private Jeep, and there's also an option to fly between the two cities for an additional cost. If we travel by road, the journey will take around seven hours. This drive won't be dull; we'll pass through some of the most beautiful and interesting rural areas of Nepal.

As we leave the Kathmandu Valley, you'll notice the landscape change. We'll see terraced farms growing barley and traditional houses before reaching the tall peaks of the Himalayas. When we get to Pokhara, we'll check into our hotel and have the evening to explore this lovely lakeside town. You might want to take a walk by the lake, try some local food, or just relax and enjoy the view.

We’ll walk through small Gurung villages, experiencing local culture and taking breaks to rest and enjoy packed lunches.

We’ll cross the Chhomrong Khola River on a suspension bridge and climb a steep staircase through a beautiful rhododendron forest to reach Sinuwa. At the top, we’ll enjoy some of the best mountain views of the Annapurna Base Camp Trek so far.

Continuing our hike, we’ll pass through the small villages of Bamboo and Dovan before arriving at the Himalayan Hotel after about five or six hours. Also known as Himalaya, this place is a small community with just a few guesthouses and restaurants. Despite its size, the hospitality here is wonderful. Are you ready for the final stretch into the Annapurna Sanctuary? Today is sure to be the highlight of your trek in Nepal as we visit two base camps: Machapuchare Base Camp and Annapurna Base Camp. Our hike starts by following the glacial moraine into the Sanctuary. We’ll check with locals to ensure it’s safe from avalanches before heading to Machapuchare Base Camp. Here, we'll have close-up views of Annapurna I, Annapurna III, and Annapurna South.

After taking in the sights at Machapuchare Base Camp, we’ll hike a few more hours to reach Annapurna Base Camp. Standing before the massive Annapurna peak, you’ll understand why it’s known as a challenging climb. The summit reaches 8,091 meters high. We’ll take plenty of photos and enjoy the thrill of reaching our goal: Annapurna Base Camp. We’ll spend the night at one of the lodges here, celebrating our achievement.

Rise early this morning to witness one of the most memorable sights on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. With a warm cup of tea in hand, you'll watch the sun rise over the beautiful Annapurna Sanctuary. After breakfast, we'll start our journey back, trekking downhill through the amazing Himalayan mountains. Although going down is easier, we'll keep a slow and steady pace to protect our knees on the many steep stairs. After about five or six hours, we'll reach Bamboo and choose a guesthouse for tonight.

If you prefer, we can hike a bit further to Sinuwa, which offers better mountain views—this being your last full day of trekking in Nepal. Whatever we decide, you'll enjoy a hot meal and a good night's rest after today's long hike.

FAQs

When’s the best time to visit Nepal?

The main seasons for trekking are the spring (Mar to May) and autumn (Sep to Nov) when you’ll have clear skies and superb mountain views. The winter (Dec to Feb) is also a great time to visit— these months offer a unique experience and fewer crowds but lower altitude treks are better at this time of year as its cold at night.

What’s it like during the monsoon season?

During the monsoon season (Jun to Aug), most of Nepal experiences heavy rain for a few hours each day. It’s humid, wet, and the trails in the lower regions (Ghorepani, Ghandruk, Langtang, etc) can be quite muddy. If you don’t mind the rain you’ll have the trails to yourself, the skies often clear up in the morning, and certain treks offer stone-paved trails that drain the rain and make for easy trekking. Also, certain regions, like Mustang and the upper reaches of Everest, lie in the rainshadow of the Himalaya and receive little rain but views however are still likely to be restricted.

What’s the difference between private and group tours?

Private tours are tailor-made itineraries built by us around your travel dates and personal interests, whereas group trips are pre-packaged and depart on specific dates. Group trips are also open for others to join, whereas private trips are just for you. You will find a list of fixed departure dates on our website.

How do I get my visa for Nepal?

For most nationalities, you can get your visa on arrival in Kathmandu. It takes around 45 minutes and is the most convenient way to get your visa you will need passport size photos. You can also apply for a visa in advance from a local Nepali consulate in your country if you’d like to have everything arranged in advance. Cost 15 Days – 25 USD / 30 Days – 40 USD / 90 Days – 100 USD

How much luggage can I take on domestic flights?

For mountain flights, you’re allowed 5 kg. carry-on to the plane and 10 kg. for checked-in luggage. For non-mountain sector flights, the check-in allowance increases to 20-25 kg.

How many days should I spend in Nepal?

If you’re mainly looking to experience Nepal’s cultural and natural highlights, you can have a great experience in 5-9 days, where you can visit two regions (likely Kathmandu and Pokhara perhaps go on Safari at Chitwan). If you intend to go trekking consider at least 10 days (more is better) to have enough time to reach higher altitudes and safely acclimatize if need be.To undertake one of the longer, classic treks in Nepal or to combine multiple regions and activities into one visit, think about 14-20 days and more if possible.

Are hotels included in the tour price?

Himalaya Heart Treks organises complete tours, meaning everything is taken care of from the moment you arrive in Nepal to the moment you leave, including all of your accommodation in a three star Hotel. If you require better accommodation please let us know and we can arrange this and adjust the tour cost accordingly. Each of our tour pages shows clearly what is and what is not included in the tour price.

Are there any extra expenses not included in my tour price?

Personal expenses (tipssoft drinks, bar bills, laundry, telephone calls, donations, and extra snacks, etc) are not included in your tour price. When checking a particular trek page on our website we have clearly stated what is and what is not included. If you’re going trekking, the only things you’ll need to pay for out of pocket are wifi and battery charging (when available), extra meals outside of what’s included, alcohol, and soft drinks and perhaps hot showers.

Amazing Trek

Jan 2023 • Friends

Reflecting upon a wonderful time in Nepal with my two adult sons. A nine day trek from Kathmandu to Pokhara and into the Annapurna region with highlights all the way, topped by sunrise on Poon Hill and a final day stroll with the snow capped peaks as a backdrop. Of course, weather is uncontrollable so we had a couple of days walking trails through forests and climbing slopes with mist above without the peaks for company, but always local nature, farm and village life to observe.
Throughout this adventure we were accompanied by our experienced and affable guide Hari from Himalaya Heart Treks & Expedition. Hari made sure our day to day trekking, meals, accommodation and activities were everything, and more, of what we hoped for. Keeping spirits up when the occasional difficult moments arose, as they will on such a venture, Hari was always telling you what you needed to hear at any moment - his timing impeccable. This Hari achieved not only by his attention to detail for every element of the trek, but also with an understanding of individual differences between everyone in the group, and responding accordingly.
Hari was also flexible organising a small mid-trek deviation in plans, and assisting us with the other sightseeing activities before and after the arranged trek. As a father in my mid-60s (and of average fitness) wanting a once in a lifetime experience with sons in their 20s and 30s I couldn’t have asked for more, and I have no hesitation recommending Himalaya Heart Treks & Expedition and Hari as a guide, if you are seeking a similarly extraordinary experience

Fanatic trek to Himalaya

Myself and my fiancee had an amazing time on our trek with our guide Ram Timalsina and porter Narayan Neupane. We had originally planned to do an 8 day hike to ABC however it would have been quite rushed so we decided to alter our route to end off at Poon Hill. Ram was fantastic in helping us make these changes and made our experience very enjoyable. Accommodations on the mountain and food through the trek was fantastic and the trek was extremely well organized. I would highly recommend Himalaya Heart Treks for those considering coming to Nepal and doing some hiking!
