How to Choose the Right Trek for You

  • First-time trekkers or short on time: Ghorepani Poon Hill or Mardi Himal (10 days, moderate difficulty)
  • Iconic bucket-list adventure: Everest Base Camp or Annapurna Circuit
  • Want remoteness without extreme difficulty: Tsum Valley or Upper Mustang
  • Experienced trekkers seeking a challenge: Nar Phu Valley, Manaslu Circuit, or Kanchenjunga Base Camp
  • Cultural immersion priority: Upper Mustang or Tsum Valley (strong Tibetan Buddhist heritage)

Best Time to Trek in Nepal

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) offer the clearest skies and most stable weather across all these regions, making them the peak trekking seasons. Rhododendrons bloom in spring, adding extra color to lower-altitude routes like Ghorepani Poon Hill and Mardi Himal. Winter (December–February) is possible on lower-altitude treks but gets very cold at higher elevations, while the summer monsoon (June–August) brings rain and limited visibility to most regions except the rain-shadow areas of Upper Mustang and the upper Everest region.

A Note on Langtang

The Langtang region — including the Langtang Valley Trek, Langtang Gosaikunda Trek, and Helambu Circuit — is currently affected by the August 26, 2026 Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi flood, which damaged the gateway town of Syabrubesi and the access road into Rasuwa district. For that reason, it isn't included in this list. Once road access and trail conditions are confirmed safe by local authorities, Langtang remains a beautiful and worthwhile trekking region in its own right.

Final Thoughts

Nepal's trekking trails offer something for every level of adventurer — from the ten-day introduction of Ghorepani Poon Hill to the demanding three-week trek to Kanchenjunga Base Camp. Whichever package you choose, book with a reputable operator, budget extra days for acclimatization on any trek above 3,500 meters, and make sure your travel insurance covers high-altitude trekking and emergency helicopter evacuation.
